Swaying from Side to Side | Sway Bar

Your sway bar could be broken if your car is behaving erratically.

A customer came into Don’s Tire and Service the other day complaining that he heard a noise in the right front of his car. He thought maybe his axle was about to break. But the certified technicians at Don’s found the real problem – the front sway bar had broken in two.

A sway bar, also known as an anti-roll bar or stabilizer, helps a car or truck maintain its stability over rough roads or during fast turns thereby improving the handling of the vehicle. The bar itself connects the left and right wheels. (The front sway bar connects the front wheels and the rear sway bar, the back wheels.) Indications of a broken sway bar include rough steering, erratic handling and a metallic noise. It’s not really safe to drive with a broken sway bar, but, if you have to for a short distance, drive very slowly and don’t take any turns quickly. And get to Don’s as fast as you can.
